While the spiritual masters take the inward journey, the scientist and technologist chose the outward. Ever since the advent of mankind this search is continuing eternally.

When one converges to a point of zero dimension one would have diverged to an infinite dimension. The inward journey or the search sooner or later ceases when one has converged to that state where one would be operating in an expanded plane of consciousness.

In the outward journey, one is diverging only to further diverge and the search continues, and the search never ceases. There are infinite possibilities and infinite are the ways. This onward search of mankind will continue eternally. This outward journey is either out of insecurity, is continuously looking for protection, or to fulfill the wants or to put the last man in the remotest corner in the comfort zone.

Unfortunately the inventions out of this outward search have both good and the bad aspect. The intension behind all these inventions is good but there is an untoward dimension associated with these inventions which is making mankind helpless. The more he tries to gain control over the nature outside, the lesser can he control it. This realization leaves him frustrated. In desperation he starts manipulating the world outside. In this diverging nature one cannot handle the totality dimension hence tends to divide and splits. This has lead to multiplicity of caste, color, creed, culture, religion where one start drawing boundaries. On one side the mankind is splitting other side he striving hard to bring them together. What was innocent and curious search to begin with, will end with confusion, untoward, unwanted, competition leading to conflict and there is continuous unrest. This has lead to selfishness and meanness and man is wriggling like a worm in these self inflicted sorrows; also he is continuously fighting for rights and freedom. In the process of such seeming liberation he loses freedom. No amount of external freedom can give us true liberation. Besides the truth revealed in such a search has time and space limitation. More one tries to diverge more one is confined and there by bound losing the freedom.

The self or the ‘I’ that we are aware of is limited and is of changing nature. It is limited to time and space. It has a beginning and an end. The search of mankind in this world is to gain unique attributes to identify or to set up a pointer to oneself to distinguish one from the other. One identifies himself with the name, family, religion, society, country, education, wealth, power, position or some unique skill set that one posses etc., the more one thinks he has grown only to realize that there is more to grow. One is lost in this journey.

Spiritual masters are intelligent and truly perceptive to the problem of the outward journey and take up the inward journey. In the inward journey there are less and fewer parameters to analyze. Sooner or later they will get established in truth. Remember the truth established is changeless and transcends time and space. Doubt, anxiety and fear which haunts the mankind ceases to be. The confusion and conflicts ceases to be. They will be bundle of love and compassion. They are in a state where they enjoy peace without external aids.

Bhagavan Ramana’s quest ‘who am I’ is relevant to any age and any milieu. In this quest one begins to transcend time, space, situation, body, mind the prana and the Intellect. Transcending time and space is to give less and less importance to the world outside. This happens when one stops associating with the body, mind and intellect. One slowly sheds all the attributes to become one with that attribute-less self which is the ‘self’ of every manifested being, thereby becoming one with everyone and everything. One would have attained the fulfillment; the journey is completed and hence further search cease to be.

The Giri pradakshina around Arunachala may be a long path, the mountain path may be tough, but with the Ramana way, you just have to be. The state of consciousness is such even the thought that one is enjoying peace or bliss ceases to be. Blessed and intelligent are those who take this inward journey to enjoy the freedom absolute and in harmony and sync with everything and every being.
